What’s the fuzz with makeup pigments?

You know those intense colored bottles of powder Instagram influencers are using to create intense make-up looks? They look so rich and glamorous, but you find impossible to wear them on daily basis. They’re make-up pigments, and only because influencers and make-up artists use them to create magazine looks, it doesn’t mean you cannot use them to enhance your beautiful features when you go to work or on a date.

Let’s face it! Everyone who ever opened a bottle of make-up pigments, wanted to try them. But most of them are afraid to do it because they’ll get into an out-of-comfort zone.

You probably think chameleonic pigments like the ones from this link, work wonderfully for a birthday party, wedding, New Year’s Eve, and even a Halloween party. But you should know that make-up companies like AMA are not producing these items only for extravagant events. Only because some powders are supposed to be used for make-up tutorials, magazine looks or special event, it doesn’t mean you cannot find plenty of them, you can use to create a day-to-day look.

Before deciding if make-up pigments are something you would try, you should find out some things.

What is a make-up pigment?

A pigment is the ingredient found in all eye-shadows, without containing the binder and talc traditional eye shadows contain. Because pigments are rough powders they have a more vibrant color than traditional eye shadows. They come in a powder form because they don’t experience pressing, so you may find difficult to apply them if you have no basic knowledge on how to use make-up.  

Hmm, ok. Now you know what they are, but how can you use them?

How can you apply a pigment without ruining your make-up?

Well, depending on the type of the pigment, and on the type of make-up style you prefer there are multiple ways to apply them. For coarse make-up pigments, you need to use a liquid-glue that helps the product stay on your eyelids. Powdery pigments are applied similar to eye shadows, but you need to carefully maneuver them not to sprinkle them on all your face. Medium coarse pigments can be applied with the help of a liquid eye shadow that offers them a base they can stick on.

If you want to take the technique a step further and to explore more ways to use make-up pigments, then you can mix them with your body lotion and apply them on your skin when you want a charming glow.

Are you a creative person? Then you can mix your favorite pigments with a liquid lip balm or clear gloss and create your own lipstick shades. Or you can apply them with water in the centre of the lip to add some dimension. It’s always a good idea to experiment with pigments if you want to try something new.
