Britney Spears

You don’t have to like how Britney Spears looked in the ‘90s or want a belly button ring, to know that trends come and go, and come again.

But most of the times trends don’t come back in the same shape they went away. Last year, even everyone was head-over-hills with colourful eye makeups, but the looks were different from the ones people worn in the ‘90s. Some of them were even unexpected.

And because today we’re writing about the makeup everyone seems to talk about, we should start by highlighting that the cut crease doesn’t look the same as it did in the past. Makeup enthusiasts, bloggers, and makeup artists hit the refresh button to re-create this look, that takes us back in the ‘60s. The lines everyone wears on the eyelids are fresh, bold, colourful and sometimes minimal.

Katie Jane Hughes gave this trend a new name, the floating crease. She explains that the lines are twiggy and placed between the brow and the lash line. It’s something new and unique because the classic cut crease is layered and heavily blended.

Hughes states that this new trend inspired from the makeup people worn back in the ‘60s, but because it emerged in a minimalist makeup world, it suffered some changes. Many people prefer a simplistic look in a world where social media promotes intricacy. Katie Jane Hughes uses freshly sharped pencils and etches the line bit by bit. Then she uses a pointy cotton swab to clean the residue.

We are in love with this technique, and we selected some versions we really like.
